April meeting news

At our April meeting, we had Lou Everett WA5LOU and Doreen Everett AE5QM, from ARRL Indiana, talk to us. Lou presented a surprisingly complicated chart of the ARRL organization at the state level. The organization is kept ready in case of emergencies. The internet, cellphones and electricity that modern society depend on are fragile systems, and communication could be easily lost.  He suggested that we all try to participate in traffic handling so that we can get experience at it.  The NTS has a 14-page PDF called the "Traffic Manual" which explains everything and can be downloaded from the ARRL website.

Doreen presented a slide show called Tips & Tonics for Amateur Radio Clubs. She pointed out that if people join or renew ARRL through an affiiliated club, the ARRL gives some money to the club. Robert is looking into this. She suggested a number of things to make club meetings less boring. Another suggestion was a skills inventory, that is, finding out what skills are available among club members, so that we can help each other with projects.  We might also join the Indiana Radio Club Council (IRCC), not the same as the Indiana Repeater Council (IRC), which helps coordinate activities between clubs.

There was a lot of food for thought at the meeting. See you all May 27!
